To empower small-scale farmers to cultivate prosperity with their land, regenerating tropical landscapes and transforming rural economies in Borneo and beyond.
Over decades, Southeast Asia’s urbanisation has concentrated wealth and resources in a few cities, while unsustainable resource extraction hollows out rural heartlands. Inequality has deepened with development: the region’s bottom 90% earn just USD290 a month.
We reverse this trend by making small-scale agriculture a high-value economic engine. By enabling millions to reclaim wealth and dignity through the most valuable resource they can access – land – we fuel rural economies and create new markets for the region.
the problem
Malaysia and Indonesia produce 85% of the world’s palm oil. Here, 3 million smallholder farmers manage 30-40% of palm oil land, yet decades of interventions — which privilege monoculture plantations — have failed to raise their yields beyond half the industrial average.
Meanwhile, climate stress, price volatility, labor shortages and sustainability regimes are making monoculture increasingly untenable for under-resourced farmers.
